VPS Provider Checklist

Selecting a reliable VPS host for your business can be a daunting affair. Here are some pointers which would make your job easier in selecting a rock solid virtual server host for your business:

Goodwill: Your VPS provider should have atleast 3-4 years of 'proven' experience in hosting websites and managing dedicated servers. You should be able to read some of their testimonials and speak with some of their existing clients as well.
Presence: If you are an Indian establishment, consider using an Indian VPS provider for your VPS hosting needs. This would ensure that you get more effective support and would also ensure that you are able to deduct TDS for server payments, which will not be the case if you remit money abroad.
Support: Your VPS provider should be able to resolve technical issues when you need it the most. This can be achieved only when the provider is committed and has a dedicated staff to proactively resolve issues as they arrive.
Cost Effective: Your VPS hosting provider should be cost effective and transparent to ensure that there are no hidden costs in their solution. They should also provide you with an SLA for their uptime guarantee and provide you with monitoring tools to alert you if your VPS is unavailable.
Server Management: In an unmanaged VPS environment, you will be required to setup and configure the system on your own and can only receive a basic support on smaller issues.
